The project involved designing a book that visually interprets Tristan Tzara’s 1918 Dada Manifesto through distinctive typography and self-generated imagery. The book measures 160mm x 240mm, with French-folded pages. Woodblock letterpress was chosen to reflect the manifesto’s raw, expressive nature and to create illustrative typography aligned with the Dadaist aesthetic.
Embracing the Dadaist principle of disruption and unconventional reading, the layout allows the text to be approached from either end of the book, with the narrative flowing in both directions. When the two texts meet, pointing fingers indicate the change in orientation, prompting the reader to rotate the book and continue reading.
This design embodies the spirit of Dada by challenging linear reading and traditional form, transforming the act of reading into an interactive, exploratory experience.
