This project explores the informal Latin inscriptions found on the walls of the Roman Empire. Presented as a concertina book, it features imagery inspired by the original handwritten graffiti and the artistic styles of the period. Cut-out elements connect both sides of the concertina, adding depth and emphasising its three-dimensional form.
The book offers a glimpse into the everyday use of Latin, revealing the humour, anger, hope, and dissatisfaction expressed through these ancient markings. By capturing the spontaneity and emotion behind the inscriptions, the project draws parallels between Roman society and contemporary human experience, highlighting how little our behaviours and expressions have changed over time.
